Coronado Crossing RC&D
Regular Board Meeting
July 1, 2008

The Coronado Crossing RC&D board met Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in Dodge City for its regular bimonthly meeting. President Glenda Harvey called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. Members present were Ed Elam, Lea Ann Seiler, Kim Woods, Bill Carr, Jerry Rakes, and acting coordinator, Roger Masenthin. There were no visitors present.

Ed Elam moved and Lea Ann Seiler seconded to accept the agenda as amended. All in favor. Motion carried.

The minutes from the May 1, 2008 meeting had been e-mailed. Ed Elam moved and Kim Woods seconded to accept the minutes as presented. All in favor, motion carried.

Ed Elam presented the treasurer’s report. Jerry Rakes moved and Lea Ann Seiler seconded to accept the report for audit and pay the bills. All in favor. Motion carried.

Coordinator’s Report:

Eric Banks, the new State Conservationist has been invited to the State RC&D Annual Meeting.

Roger wants to tour each county with a local guide to discuss county issues with the citizens.

The 2008 Projects & Activities:

AFA Scholarship Initiative – Roger will call High Plains Journal to see if they are interested in hosting a BBQ for AFA representatives and the public to raise donations for next year’s scholarship.

Tree Pruning Workshop – Roger will contact John Klempa, KS Forest Service, for a possible fall workshop.

5-Year Windbreak Renovation – no report

Farm Safety Day for Kids – Kim will call Heather Grigsby to check on the status and offer our support.

Adopt-a-Bike Program – Two more orders have been turned in to Ellsworth. Hodgeman County’s should be ready July 10. Ford County’s won’t be ready until the first part of August.

FHFH – 750 lbs. of meat was distributed in our area this year. We need to get a brochure ready to distribute where deer hunting licenses are purchased for the 07-08 season.

Old Business:

Webpage and newsletter updates – Ed has been working on changes suggested by members. Continue to look at the webpage and e-mail him your suggestions.


New Business:
a) The KS RC&D Conference/Energy Fair is scheduled for August 3-6 in Junction City. Jerry Rakes moved and Kim Woods seconded to pay for up to 3 council members to attend this conference. All in favor. Motion carried.
b) Possible New Projects:
(1) Community Tree Inventory – No report from C.J.
(2) We have received the project application for the Buckner Fall Fest.
(3) We will add alternative energy to this year’s work plan and carry it over for next year.
(4) Dollie will e-mail the 2007 Annual Work Plan to all members. This plan needs to be updated for 2008 and voted on and signed at the next meeting.
c) The Circle of Diamonds application information will be e-mailed to the members and added to the September agenda.
d) Roger and Lea Ann set up a booth and represented Coronado Crossing at the Ford County business fair. There were 16 vendors and 4 of them were familiar with Coronado Crossing.
e) Our Not-for-Profit Corporation Annual Report has been filled out and will be filed with the Secretary of State next week.
f) Ford County has just had a housing survey completed. They are 1500 houses short.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 4, 2008 in Dodge City at the Government Building. Glenda will check with John Ewy to see if meeting at the college will be more convenient for him. With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned.
